A POLICEMAN whose job was to protect children from paedophiles was locked up today for grooming a 13-year-old girl........Andrew Burton, who was working at Ecclesfield Police Station at the time of the offence in May 2006, was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to the charge.
He also admitted attempting to pervert the cause of justice by destroying a mobile phone belonging to the Police Federation which he had used to contact his victim.
Sheffield Crown Court heard the 41-year-old of Birklands Avenue, Handsworth, had resigned from his job monitoring sex offenders in the community when details of the offence came to light. - Well that makes things much better doesn't it! To think this man was trusted to take care of the young ones throughout South Yorkshire. Another lenient sentence for a pervert who abused his position.
