Man hunted after drugs factory find

THIS man is being hunted by police after officers uncovered a cannabis factory in Barnsley and seized £150,000 worth of the drug.

Officers arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the drug cultivation enterprise on Ripley Grove, Redbrook, but they are now trying to find another man.

He is Asian and believed to have previously lived in Nottingham.

Police have released CCTV footage of him paying money into the Scunthorpe branch of the Nationwide Building Society on February 9 to pay the rent for the property police raided.

South Yorkshire is staging a community day for Eastern European people living in Sheffield and surrounding areas.

‘Feel safe know your community’ is believed to be the first of its kind, offering newcomers to the area information about services available to all.

The free event, which is open to everyone, is being staged at St Marie's Cathedral on Norfolk Row, Sheffield on Sunday, September 21 from 1:30pm and follows the weekly Polish mass by Fr Andrzej Pyster.

Sheffield Lord Mayor Cllr Jane Bird will open activities which will also include a special appearance from Kevin Aiston an Englishman turned Poland-based celebratory fire fighter.

Born in Chelsea, Kevin went to Poland in 1991 initially as a visitor, but enjoyed the country so much he stayed and became an active firefighter for the Polish Fire Brigade. He has been decorated four times for his actions of bravery and is currently a Crew Commander in the Radzymin area of Poland.

Kevin’s adventures with the Polish media began in 2002 and has since appeared in five TV programmes, a radio show, published two books and for the last two years has been touring Poland as a stand-up comedian.

Fr Chris Posłuszny, the Dean at St Marie's Cathedral whose family originally came from Poland, will also be giving a brief talk about South Yorkshire to the Cathedral’s congregation.

The community event has been established by the South Yorkshire Joint Secretariat, which provides independent, impartial support and advice to the Police Authority and Fire and Rescue Authority.

Paul Staines, Principal Policy Officer at South Yorkshire Police Authority, said: “The ‘Feel safe’ open day has been devised as a way of listening to a new community and is in response to the feedback we and our partners received through existing consultation with the wider public.

“The Police and Fire Authorities continue to engage with all members of the community and with this event we are able to communicate to a new group of people in the local area. It will provide them with access to information about what we do and the services available to them.”

Stalls from the Police, Fire and Rescue, Sheffield City Council, the Joint Authorities, What’s on in Sheffield, the National Health Service, Sheffield Homes and others will provide free advice on how to stay safe in South Yorkshire.

Career advice will be available and there will also be an opportunity for the public to share experience of crime, anti-social behaviour and hate crime hot spots with the emergency services.

Any attendees filling out a questionnaire available on the policing priorities 2008-11, will also be entered into a raffle to win a range of prizes supplied by local sponsors.

Why Are All the Pubs Shutting?

One of the saddest outcomes of 11 years of Labour misrule is the phenomenon we are now witnessing all over the country of so many local pubs shutting their doors for good. Some people may say “it’s a good thing – alcohol has always caused problems in society and it’s good to see less of it being drunk”. But people aren’t drinking less; they’re drinking just as much as ever, but now it’s in their own homes.

The local pub has for hundreds of years been a hub of the community and a place to meet and make friends, and its decline and fall marks a great change in British society that needs to be investigated.

The reason why it’s so sad to see the local pubs closing is because it’s indicative of the sharply declining community feeling in this country, and it’s corollary ‘social cohesion’. Clearly people are much less inclined to spend their time in a communal type gathering with a social atmosphere amongst friends and neighbours, and also people they may not know but whose presence they find agreeable. They apparently would prefer to stay at home watching their digital TV’s, surfing the internet, or doing whatever else interests them.

There may indeed be other factors to consider when asking the question “why aren’t people going out so much these days?” Firstly is it a matter of cost? You can buy alcohol very cheaply in the supermarket compared to pub prices, but people aren’t any poorer now than they were 10 or 15 years ago. This is shown by the ever increasing number of take-away’s and restaurants opening and apparently being successful, and also by the burgeoning trend for foreign holidays. No, people in general are not lacking the funds for a weekly trip down the boozer, and drinking at home by yourself is hardly a comparable experience to drinking down the pub with your mates.

Another contributory factor may be the burgeoning field of home entertainment. Not so long ago there was just the TV with four stations to choose from. Now you have far more choice of TV viewing, and if you can’t find something to watch you can log onto the internet and join your cyber ‘mates’ in the virtual world. But it’s a sad person who can find this to be an entirely satisfactory replacement for face to face human contact and real friendship.

Could one of the major factors behind this loss in community spirit we are now experiencing in Britain be due to the relentless promotion of multiculturalism by the Labour Government and indeed by the rest of the British Establishment? They’re trying to tell the British people that what’s happening is a good thing but people know either consciously or sub-consciously that it’s not. They see so many new people that are not like themselves moving into their towns and villages, and see so many people on the TV that are obviously of foreign extraction, and it is making them feel uneasy. In most cases it’s not a definite feeling of aversion for these newcomers – it’s just a feeling that they themselves are not quite as ‘at home’ as they once were. Their reaction to this is for them to feel inclined to retreat into the safety of their own home, shut the door and not go out until they have to.

Opponents of immigration have always said it would damage social cohesion in this country, but this is not some abstract idea that the average man in the street may or may not be aware of. It’s a very real phenomenon that has very real consequences and one of these is the gradual disappearance of the friendly local pub. Of course our opponents will quote an example of a successful and busy pub in a heavily multicultural area and claim that this refutes our theory, but then this goes strongly against the general trend, and may be due to other factors not immediately apparent.

MORE GYPSY SITES

TWO sites in South Yorkshire have been earmarked for gipsies as the council battles to prevent illegal camps and meet a Government target to provide more spaces.

Oaks Lane at Hoyle Mill, and Sandygate Lane, Stairfoot, in Barnsley have been identified as potential temporary stopping places.

The council has to find 48 extra spaces for gipsies and travellers to meet Government requirements. Ten are to be created if funding can be found to expand a permanent gipsy site at Smithies, leaving a shortfall of 38.

New Assistant Chief Constable for S Yorks

South Yorkshire Police Authority has appointed Max Sahota as Assistant Chief Constable for the county.

Mr Sahota is currently a Chief Superintendent with West Midlands Police.

The 44-year old from Coventry will be responsible for specialist operations in South Yorkshire targeting high-level crime, intelligence gathering and operations.

He takes the portfolio from Assistant Chief Constable Andy Holt, who will now look after the force’s territorial operations, dealing with all South Yorkshire districts on local policing.

Barnsley BNP - Simon Goodricke

The Barnsley Chronicle has printed an article making serious allegations about our Hoyland Milton candidate, Simon Goodricke. All we can say at this time is that Simon was released after the incident and no charges were brought against him. Investigations are underway against the journalists involved with this incident as several laws could have been broken.

Simon tells us that this matter has made him more determined to continue and he will inform us of the outcome once legal proceedings against the Chronicle are finalised.

All the boroughs editions of the Chronicle have different headlines, the town edition runs the article about Simon, BNP man in gun drama; ‘drama’ been the key word.

The Darton and Cudworth editions run more anti BNP propaganda slating the candidates for having their photographs taken outside local churches, even though Ian Sutton has used the Darton church as a back drop the last 2 years.

This goes to show the lengths the government influenced media will go to in their task of undermining the growth of the BNP in Barnsley.

Barnsley could face 'first outdoor smoking ban'.

Barnsley could be the first town in Britain to ban smoking outside pubs.

In a consultation document, entitled "Guidelines for street cafes", the council said it was considering banning smoking in outside licensed areas.

If customers are caught smoking outside three times, the premises could lose its licence.

The guidelines state: "As of April 1 the licensed cafe area will be a no-smoking area.

"It will be the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that customers are witnessed to be smoking, then the licence will be revoked."

Barnsley councillor Roy Miller said the council was consulting with local businesses on the issue.

"We looked at the policy as we are receiving lots of applications for outside licensed areas.

"It is outside but it is a public space."

Pubwatch chairman Paul McNicholas, free-of-tie lessee at Durty O'Dwyers, said the proposed policy was "beyond a joke".

He said: "I would be prepared to take them all the way to court to fight this

"I have spent £9,000 on an outside area for smokers with awnings, furniture and heating.

"The outside are has really helped since the ban. Without it I'd be in trouble."

Federation of Licensed Victuallers Association chief executive Tony Payne said: "We will be seeking an urgent meeting with the council.

"They have not consulted with us on this policy and we usually hold regular meetings with Barnsley council.

"Does this count for people smoking when leaving shops?"

Morning Advertiser legal editor Peter Coulson said: "I think it might be a step too far to seek to impose outdoor smoking bans by means of bye laws."
He added: "Piled on top of the pub smoking ban, this would be the kiss of death for some premises."

A few home truths we presume.....

REPORTS into local authority management pay illustrates graphically how the local government gravy train has made several unscheduled and completely un-necessary stops in Barnsley over the past years.
Figures show that the number of BMBC staff paid more than £50,000 per annum has risen sharply from 15 to 88 over the period 1996-97 to 2006-07, with a total pay bill to these 88 members alone of just over £5.3 million (as a contrast, the adjacent Sheffield Council numbers have risen from 12 to 79 in the same period).

Looking at the figures in slightly more detail we see some startling differences: Barnsley has 88 such members for a population of 223,500 while Sheffield can manage with 79 for 525,800 residents; Harrogate, a much wealthier area, has 12 for its population of 157,800.

The cost per rate payer is thus £24.74 in Barnsley, £10.09 in Sheffield and £5.01 in Harrogate.

The Labour leadership in Barnsley tell us they are so short of cash that they cannot even manage to keep open much-needed care homes like Green Park House in Penistone, they cannot manage to keep the roads repaired or the drains cleared but they can overspend on the Civic Hall project by £7 million. They also have no difficulty spending £1.9 million on publicity – no doubt aimed at telling us how good they are at managing our money!

Barnsley ratepayers should be asking if this is value for money and indeed whether, in the light of BMBC's current financial position, this is not excessive in the extreme.

BY KICKING BARNSLEY'S DISABLED WORKERS IN THE TEETH!

BARNSLEY'S disabled workforce was given a double blow yesterday by the news of two closures.

The occupational skills unit at the Bondfield Centre has been axed and the government has approved plans to shut Remploy's Dodworth furniture factory.

The Wombwell skills unit teaches horticultural, maintenance, metalwork and retail skills to people with learning disabilities. Most of its work will be handed over to other units.

The council and Primary Care Trust have admitted the relocation will cause distress, but maintain the move is for the overall good of the learning disability service.

Staff at the Bondfield Centre were too upset to talk about the changes. Bosses will ask 39 disabled workers on the Fall Bank industrial estate to move to Sheffield or accept help in finding work in mainstream employment.

Although Remploy says the debate is over, Barnsley West and Penistone MP, Mick Clapham is not prepared to give up yet.

He understands ministers may give a reprieve if turnover can be improved before the government's new funding regime begins in April. Mr Clapham said, "There is no guarantee but at least we have that window of opportunity."

Whilst Clapham's hate filled government is busy kicking the disabled in the teeth, Barnsley BNP believes that Remploy employees should be helped by this government not sacked. These people should be given credit as they have shown courage in overcoming their disabilities to lead useful working lives. Something that many welfare bums who have nothing wrong with them have never done in their lives!

Labour about to block rail re-opening plans for the second time

Last year, private rail company Translink, submitted plans to reopen the disused Sheffield to Manchester railway line over Woodhead in the Peak District, part of which runs within the boundaries of Barnsley. Translink are proposing to spend £159 million on relaying 35 miles of track creating a link between the M67 orbital motorway on the outskirts of Manchester and the M1 motorway at Tinsley, Sheffield. Translink intends to run a “piggyback” also known as a “rolling highway” service between the two points every 15 minutes in each direction. Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV’s) weighing up to 44 tonnes would arrive at the terminals and run straight onto simple flat wagons to be whisked across the Pennines at speeds of up to 100Km/h. Translink intend to charge hauliers £26 for each journey which is 20% cheaper than the same journey by road. Drivers could use their mandatory rest period travelling in the passenger/buffet coach. At the moment, some 26% or

58% in terms of car length equivalent of the vehicles using the Woodhead road is HGV traffic. This is causing enormous problems for the local communities along its length including high levels of pollution, dust and noise. Between 2000 and 2004 20 people have been killed on the road. Imagine what a difference this scheme could make by taking most of this HGV traffic off the road. The line has other advantages too. Established rail companies have already shown interest in using the line. There is currently no public transport between the major town of Barnsley and the city of Manchester and its airport. This line, connecting at Penistone, would provide this major link.

Left: The new Woodhead tunnel opened in 1953. It was used mainly for carrying coal from Barnsley and for carrying steel and passengers from Sheffield to Manchester. On opening, it was part of the most modern electrified main line in Britain and still is the only rail tunnel on mainland Britain wide enough to carry modern HGV’s piggybacked onto rail wagons in a twin track configuration. It was closed in 1981 by a short sighted Tory government that failed to adapt the railways for the needs of the 21st century. Today, it lies abandoned under the moors but still remains in excellent structural condition as seen in this recent photo.

Rolling highways are not a new idea. Several have been operating successfully in Continental Europe for decades, notably in Alpine areas. The Swiss in particular have a political system that is based on popular referendums, similar to what the BNP are proposing for Britain. This has meant the politicians haven’t been able to betray their voters wishes to finding a method of taking long distance lorry movements off its overstretched Alpine roads that have similar environmental sensitivities to those of our own Peak District National Park area. In 2005, 65% of all HGV traffic travelling through Switzerland to and from neighbouring countries never actually touched Swiss tarmac! This is expected to rise much more with the opening of the new Gotthard rail tunnels next year.

Right: HGVs are whisked through the Swiss Alps on a rolling road whilst drivers rest in the passenger/buffet coach. The system uses one tenth of the fuel that would be used if HGVs made the same journey by road and because the trains are hauled by electric traction, the highly populated Alpine towns suffer no airborne pollution and very little noise.

Whilst Continental Europe have been racing ahead over the last 30 years building brand new high speed passenger and freight lines, Barnsley Patriot has learned that the Translink project is already running into the same old political dogma that our lack-lustre politicians threw at Continental Railways plans to re-open the line only a few years ago. Whilst both of these schemes would have been completely self financing with no input from the taxpayer, the only thing our backward looking Labour politicians have done is invented excuses why the line cannot have permission to be rebuilt. Apparently they are worried that if the scheme fails, they will have to cough up some cash, yet they are, at the same time, set to spend £Billions of tax payers money on a secret agenda to drive a motorway through the Peak District National Park and to widen the M1 by up to 10 Lanes! On 6 June 1997, Labour, Transport Secretary, John Prescott, said: "I will have failed if in five years time there are not... far fewer journeys by car. It's a tall order but I urge you to hold me to it." by June 2002, car traffic was up by 7%. Between 1992 and 2002 the number of HGVs over 25 tonnes using our road network increased by over 45%. Add to this the fact the volume of goods carried by rail in 2001 was 5% less than it was in 1972, and a good explanation develops as to why our road network is struggling to cope with the amount of traffic using it.

Out of luck: Lotto winner Philip Walker was jailed for 15 years A BARNSLEY MP has asked the Home Office if two Barnsley men imprisoned in Malta for drug trafficking can be repatriated to serve their sentences in the UK.

Barnsley West and Penistone MP Michael Clapham has made the request after meeting relatives of the men. Philip Walker, aged 38, a former £200,000 lottery winner was jailed for 15 years in 2002 on the Mediterranean holiday island. Walker, of St Helen's Street, Elsecar, a father of two, was found guilty of plotting to deal in cocaine and possessing 229 grams of cocaine with intent to traffic.

Father of three, Steven Caddick from Worsbrough, who was on holiday with Walker at the time of their arrest, was also found guilty and sentenced to 13 years. After a subsequent appeal Walker’s sentence was reduced by three years and Caddick's by two.

Mr Clapham said the terms of the sentence were that- half of it should be served in Malta before they could be repatriated to a British jail. Mr Clapham said: "Their relatives want them repatriated as soon as possible. They are saying that their request for an earlier repatriation was turned down without explanation. I have now asked for clarification of this decision and if it is possible for them to be returned to the UK as soon as possible to serve their sentences in a British jail which will make it easier for relatives to visit them."

Comment:

This demonstrates how sick and twisted Labour MP's really are. Many Barnsley people have been mugged, beaten up and have had their houses burgled because of drug addicts trying to feed their habit. But drug dealers need not be worried, because your local Labour sicko will try to make sure your prison sentence is as comfortable as possible! The people of Barnsley don't want these people here. At least the BNP offer an effective alternative. The problem will be solved in an instant by bringing back the death penalty for drug dealers! There will be no drugs on the streets then!

South Yorks MPs claim £2m expenses

SOUTH Yorkshire's MPs claimed more than £2m of taxpayers' cash in expenses last year.

New figures revealed that the region's MPs claimed on average £138,127 from the public purse - compared to the £135,850 average for the UK's 645 MPs.

Their claims helped cover the cost of London housing, staff and office costs, travel, stamps, IT and stationery.

Sheffield Heeley MP Meg Munn claimed the most in South Yorkshire in 2006/07 - £156,462.

This made her the 42nd most expensive MP in the country

Her total included £14,882 in postage and £3,326 on other stationary.
Her combined £18,208 claim for postage and stationary was the 16th highest in the country.

Ms Munn's other major costs were the £83,544 she claimed for staff and the £22,110 for living away in London.

She told the Star: "I think I have reduced my travel expenses by the fact we have a better system in place now. We can buy cheaper tickets, and I am doing that.

"My staff costs are well within the allowance and in terms of postage this is very much in line previous years.

"I have got 40,000 constituents. If you divide it by the number of constituents, it's not that high.

"When looking at expenses it is important to remember that this is not just money that goes into the pockets of MPs."

High staffing costs of £79,912 and office costs of £27,508 contributed to Wentworth MP John Healey being the second most expensive MP in South Yorkshire with a total claim of £150,551.

He said: "All the money is to help me to do my job as an MP. It stands to reason that if you offer a good constituency office, then the costs will reflect that."

The figures show that car usage differed widely between the region's MPs.
Doncaster North MP Ed Miliband claimed £909 from the MPs' 40p a mile car mileage allowance, while Rother Valley MP Kevin Barron claimed £8,509

Rotherham MP and former Europe minister Denis MacShane's regular trips to the continent meant he claimed the most in South Yorkshire for air travel - £1,284.

Liberal Democrat leadership contest frontrunner Nick Clegg claimed £146,022 - £7,191 more than his only declared rival, Chris Huhne.
Mr Clegg, MP for Sheffield Hallam, claimed almost the full allowance for London housing costs as well as £4,539 in train fares and £4,148 on postage.

Meanwhile, two of Barnsley's three MP had the region's lowest claims - Jeff Ennis claimed £104,243 and Michael Clapham £102,510
Nationally, the most expensive MP in the country was the international development minister Shahid Malik. He cost the taxpayer £185,421 in 2006/07.

MPs claimed £87.6 million in allowances overall last year - a like-for-like rise of around 5% on the sum for the previous 12 months.
Liberal Democrat MP Nick Harvey, who represents the Members Estimate Committee, insisted British taxpayers got "excellent value for money" compared to those in other countries.

But the TaxPayers' Alliance pressure group said MPs should be "ashamed" at the scale of the claims.

Chief executive Matthew Elliott said: "Families are struggling to pay higher tax bills whilst MPs are spending more and more of our money on themselves each year."

Prime Minister Gordon Brown - who was still Chancellor during the period the latest figures refer to - claimed a total of £135,525.
His Tory rival David Cameron - who represents Witney in Oxfordshire, claimed £7,860 more - including £20,563 on London housing and £12,775 on postage and stationery.

This can be spent on rent, the interest on a mortgage or hotel bills.
MPs can also claim back costs for groceries, furniture, white goods, electrical equipment, utility bills, council tax and even decoration and TV licences incurred in London.

• They can claim up to £21,339 a year for constituency office rental and maintenance costs, office supplies and equipment, utilities, repairs, postage from the constituency, and newspaper subscriptions.

• There is an allowance of £90,505 a year for secretarial and research staff in the constituency and Commons offices. It is up to individual MPs to decide where to locate their staff and how much to pay.

• MPs get unlimited first class travel within the UK, a car mileage rate of 40p per mile for the first 10,000 miles and 25p per mile over 10,000 miles, 24 per mile for motorbike travel and 20p per mile for bicycle travel.

• They can also claim for three trips a year in Europe, as long as the destination has a parliament.

The Chronicle help promote ex ANC 'Barnsley Lass'

‘A Barnsley lass on a crusade’ is the title of an article in this weeks Barnsley Chronicle (Friday 24th August 2007). But then you read that the ‘Barnsley lass’ is actually an asylum seeker from South Africa, is black or half caste (there’s a photo), and has only been in Barnsley since 2003. The Chronicle uses the title ‘Barnsley lass’ because in the interview the woman uses it herself. These are her words-

“I regard myself as ‘Barnsley’ and I’m very proud and passionate about it. I see Barnsley changing all the time and I’m proud of that. The world is coming to Barnsley and we might have been one of the last in the UK but we are becoming a multicultural society. We can’t change the world but we can change things one step at a time. I’m a Barnsley lass. I wouldn’t leave now.”

Surely the common understanding of the phrase ‘Barnsley lass’ is someone who was either born in Barnsley or has lived in Barnsley nearly all their life. This woman is now 42 so presumably she was around 38 when she came here. She seems to have a problem defining her own identity. She’s not a Barnsley lass, she is an African woman living in Barnsley. There’s a world of difference. We are all familiar with the much promoted concept that ‘anyone is British after they have lived here for five minutes’ but this is an advance even on that. If she can claim to be a Barnsley lass then the identity of real Barnsley lasses is denied.

She also uses the personal pronoun ‘we’ as if she were a genuine Barnsley person and had always lived here. Very presumptuous of her to say the least. No doubt 9 out of 10 real Barnsley people would not be sorry to see her on the next flight back to Africa - there’s no point in anyone pretending otherwise.

She runs an organisation in Barnsley called ‘Migrant Asylum and Refugee Community Organisation’ (MARCO) which helps newly arrived immigrants settle into the town. The crusade that the Chronicle article refers to is her fight against what she calls ‘ignorance’ amongst the indigenous British population of Barnsley. She states-

“I’m confident that if we could bring down apartheid we can bring down anything”

This refers to her previous incarnation as a member of Nelson Mandela’s ANC.

There is certainly something worth studying here. The ANC did play a part in bringing down apartheid, along with economic sanctions and political pressure from the rest of the world. But what sort of country has emerged from the ‘tyranny’ of white rule. Now that the blacks are running the country are they any better off or happier than they were before? The simple answer to that is an emphatic no. The country is being engulfed in a tidal wave of murders, rapes, robberies, hijackings, and other serious crimes like has never been seen before. The whole infrastructure of many of the towns and cities is disintegrating. Many white people who can are emigrating. It’s Rhodesia into Zimbabwe being played out once again. A prosperous first world country being transformed into a poverty stricken, crime ridden, corrupt, third world dump.

I think by now that everyone in and around Barnsley are totally aware of the devastation caused by the freak floods across South Yorkshire. People have returned from their annual holidays to find their homes wrecked by the disaster, this alone is enough to traumatise any man but not in the case of a resident in the Lundwood area; he returned home to find his home was flooded but to add to the injury he had also been looted! Now that puts a different perspective on the situation altogether, insured or not this man has lost his personal possessions due to the scum that walk the streets of Barnsley. Carpets and general household appliances are not really personal to someone, they can be replaced, but to find personal possessions and sentimental items missing and have the knowledge that bedrooms have been routed through and pilfered is a lot more frustrating.

Where’s the media coverage? Too busy rattling on about Gordon Bloody Brown.

We must get a government elected that will deal with this scum in an appropriate way, a government that doesn’t care about the human rights of this scum, a government that will have zero tolerance on this kind of crime, a government that will build new prisons and invest more into the present prison system to help protect the British public especially in their own homes.

Andrew Burton, who was working at Ecclesfield Police Station at the time of the offence in May 2006, was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to the charge.

He also admitted attempting to pervert the cause of justice by destroying a mobile phone belonging to the Police Federation which he had used to contact his victim.

Sheffield Crown Court heard the 41-year-old of Birklands Avenue, Handsworth, had resigned from his job monitoring sex offenders in the community when details of the offence came to light. - Well that makes things much better doesn't it! To think this man was trusted to take care of the young ones throughout South Yorkshire. Another lenient sentence for a pervert who abused his position.

Firemen's sirens silenced

WORRIED firefighters today blasted new rules banning them from speeding to some incidents with flashing blue lights and sirens.
Under new guidelines designed to reduce road accidents involving their engines crews will only be allowed to travel above the speed limit and use their blues and twos to get to fires where there is an immediate threat to life or property.
But the new rules have been met with concern by Sheffield firefighters, who say travelling at normal speeds for less serious emergency calls could "definitely" put lives and property at risk........

TWO veteran councillors lost their seats in a result which left the one-time Labour stronghold of Barnsley with a majority of only three.

Council Leader Steve Houghton blamed "strong personal attacks" by the Barnsley Independent Group for ousting Alan Schofield and Alex Vodden, who each have decades of experience.

The situation leaves the Labour group with what Mr Houghton described as a "working majority" and he said: "It could have been worse and it could have been better.

"It is a Labour council with a working majority and we will continue to move Barnsley forwards.

"We hope to go into next year's elections in a much stronger position.

" He said there had been "strong personal attacks" on the two serving councillors who lost their seats, "As strong as I have ever seen in local politics in Barnsley and that had an effect.

" The BNP fielded more candidates than ever before in the town and although none was successful, those standing in the Central, Dearne North and Darton West wards secured enough support to take second place.

The election means Labour now hold 33 seats, with the Barnsley Independent Group controlling 20, Conservatives five, Lib Dems two and non-aligned councillors three.

During the next few days you will see and here a lot of labour propaganda due to the up coming elections, don’t be taken in by this, they will pretend they are putting things right and doing something about the problems we see everyday. It’s like the moderate budget we see before a general election, all of it fabrication to gain the vote of the electorate. The labour party have one agenda and one agenda only; this is to continue the social experiment that we know is failing, why is this? The answer is simple; it is to ensure they stay in power. “When the people loose faith in the government – change the people”. Every immigrant that comes into this country is advised to register to vote, and they are influenced by the local government to vote labour. Eventually there will be more voting foreign nationals than there are English. This can have a dramatic effect on the country and one that will no doubt be irreversible.

The British National Party doesn’t tell lies! If they did it would make all the major headlines and the party would be sued with no exceptions, anything to put them down or give them bad publicity. So please don’t fall for this one either.

It is extremely important that you take time to vote on the 3rd of May. Please don’t be one of those that says I cant be bothered, it is this attitude alone that is keeping the present government in power, the other one I hear a lot is “it’s not a general election”, maybe not, but its Barnsley Councillors that make the decisions on what happens around Barnsley and once we have some BNP councillors elected and in the council chamber the PC brigade can be opposed and a common sense view can be put across.

The largest opposition for the BNP in most of Barnsley’s wards in the last elections was the ‘didn’t vote party’ please make the effort and show them that you do care about Barnsley and you do care about Britain.

TESCO is coming to Penistone following unanimous backing from councillors..

Despite the majority of residents objecting to the Tesco superstore, Barnsley Councillors voted unanimously in favour of it; this will eventually put local traders out of business.

This is the way the present councillors treat the electorate, no thought given whatsoever for the established family businesses that will eventually suffer. I can see Penistone becoming like other villages in the district where most of the retail properties are just swag, pound and charity shops. Just take a look at Wombwell for example; before Tesco’s opened you could buy whatever you needed without leaving the village, it will only be a matter of time before the same signs start to show in Penistone.

The White Slaves of Barnsley

On the 4th of July 1838 a disaster took place at the Husker Pit in which 26 children were killed. Although the disaster was relatively small compared with many of the larger mining disasters which were occurring in Barnsley at that time, it caught the attention of Queen Victoria. The Queen sent a deputation to Barnsley to hold an enquiry. The enquiry’s report led Parliament to ban children under the age of ten from working in the mines in 1842 although the Mines Inspector in his 1878 report disclosed that boys between ten and twelve were still working underground.

Today, a memorial in the form of a small drift (tunnel) coming out of the hillside with a sculpture of a child can be found at the side of Moorend Lane (Nabs Wood) in Silkstone Common. However, the real site of the disaster took place in a little known location, deeper inside the forest where the partially collapsed drift entrance and the deadly stream that runs along side it can still be examined.

On the morning of the disaster, very hot weather led to a violent afternoon thunderstorm. The stream running alongside the Moorend Lane Pit became a torrent which put out the surface furnace fires and made the Moorend Lane shaft inoperable. On attempting to escape via the old Husker (House Car) drift, the children found themselves trapped against air doors. The water had also flooded into the drift and its weight was bearing down on the air doors above the children. Eventually the doors gave way and the children were drowned and crushed.

The enquiry found that children as young as seven were working up to 12 hours a day in the pit. Adolescent girls were employed alongside men who worked naked. The youngest children worked as trappers. They sat in a little hole with a length of string attached to an air door. When they heard an approaching wagon they pulled the string and opened the door. They sat in the dark on a damp floor with exposed drafts. Other children not only had to haul wagons but also had to help fill them. The report concluded that severe beatings were rare but the children had to be kept at work and therefore only slight beatings occurred! One witness told the delegation that some children were disciplined with a pick shaft or anything else a collier could get his hands on.

These children were nothing more than slaves, forced to work to earn a pittance for their hard up families. They were by no mean unique to the mining areas of Barnsley, their “employment” was widespread throughout the whole of the UK. Another memorial can be visited in the Church yard on the High street in Silkstone. Isn’t it typical how the liberal leftists who have been apologising about Black African slavery for the last 30 years have never commented about slavery issues closer to home.

A PLEASURE TO GO TO WORK

I meet the general public a lot when I’m at work, actually if it wasn’t for the good old public I wouldn’t have a job at all. Today was one those days I actually enjoyed my work, when I had the pleasure of meeting an elderly lady maybe in her late seventies or early eighties. Once we got the usual introduction out of the way she started to discuss Barnsley’s new ‘£24 million’ bus station.

“What a monstrosity and such a waste of Barnsley peoples money that is, I wonder why they think we need it, lets face it we don’t have any shops left in Barnsley town centre and you have to walk a mile to get to the Alhambra Centre”.

I replied in my usual manner telling her “Barnsley is alright if you want a beer, kebab or a charity shop”.

“Bloody pound shops too, if my husband could see Barnsley now he would turn in his grave, what with all the industries that have closed and all the immigrants we have all around town”.

“It is becoming a big problem, both the lack of employment and the jobs that are there now pay minimum rates because the immigrants are willing to work for it, I’m not saying that Barnsley people wont”.

She interrupted me at that point and told me “No. I wouldn’t say that either but these people can afford to work on low wages because they get more help than local folk, with housing costs and all the other benefits they get. That’s another reason Barnsley town centre is so grim, all their money is sent home, very little is actually spent here”.

This was my chance “I don’t blame these people for trying to better themselves, it’s the government. I am totally dissatisfied with the so called labour government we have”.

“Labour? Labour? My late husband was a Labour Councillor in Barnsley for xx years! This so called labour government have done more harm to Barnsley than Maggie Thatcher did when she closed the Coal Mines, its just people can’t see it love”.

After a brief talk about her husband’s council years and putting the world to rights it was almost time to go our separate ways.

“You know son, you should really consider voting BNP next election, they are the only ones who make any sense these days”.

I smiled at her and said “I already do”.

She smiled back and that was the end of our little meeting, one very charming lady who I look forward to meeting again very soon.

Worsbrough Bus Incident

Dearne FM are still going on about the so called racist attack in Worsbrough last week when a bus driver was attacked and a black male went to help him and became a victim himself. When will they realise he was a victim of circumstances, anyone on the bus who had intervened would have faced the same fate. Abuse would have been hurled at them by the thugs and they would have been attacked regardless of age, race, colour or religion, but I suppose they just need another statistic.

Activists should take extra care when out posting leaflets in the Barnsley Borough, with respect to the latest incident relating to the Deputy Mayoress of Barnsley, Pauline Haigh. While Miss Haigh was out in Cudworth posting Labour Party news letters with her partner, Deputy Mayor Councillor Joe Hayward last Sunday she lost part of her finger. She posted a leaflet through a letterbox, on Pleasant View when she disturbed the West Highland White sleeping by the door. She heard the dog bark and then followed a tremendous shock; she pulled out her hand to find part of her finger was missing.
After several painkilling injections and a consultation with the plastic surgeon it was revealed the severed part could not be re-attached. Education welfare officer Pauline Haigh of Mapplewell Barnsley told the Chronicle that she was angry and continued with an attack on the electorate stating “I have always been a pet lover but if there is a dog that attacks the post as it comes through, the owners should have a guard up or an outside post-box”. After the Police had investigated the incident a spokesman said it was a complete accident. Miss Haigh showed no signs of her disgust about the incident when she was interviewed by Calendar News.

Meetings of council to be arranged around prayer

Move to attract more councillors

Council meetings will be arranged to avoid clashes with the times when people need to pray.
The move is part of a drive to attract more people from ethnic and faith groups to stand as councillors reported the Barnsley Chronicle today. They reported that considering cultural and religious requirements when organising the council diary would help to make the council more diverse. A report put to senior councillors on Wednesday states: “where practicable and on the advice on the equalities and diversity officer, meetings should not be scheduled to take place at those hours of the day which have cultural or religious significance for the different faith communities living in the borough” It also recommended that when the actual dates of the meetings clashed with days of cultural or religious significance they should be altered, when possible. These have been approved in the first instance and will now need to go through another process and then to the full council for final approval. After the meeting, Councillor Mike Stokes (who chaired the steering group for the IMCB project) said “the new way of working is aimed at recognising cultural differences.” He added “it is about saying instead of having a meeting at this particular time why can’t we have it at some other time.” “It’s not a case of changing the system dramatically it’s about trying to be sensible and aware of peoples needs and if we can meet them then that’s wonderful.”
